On the sixth anniversary of the day Facebook was launched from a Harvard University dorm room, co-founder Mark Zuckerberg announced the social-networking firm had 400 million active members around the globe.

And Facebook celebrated both milestones Thursday night with a party at the company's Palo Alto headquarters and by rolling out yet another set of changes for its members' pages as a present.

Facebook has expanded dramatically in the past year. Just one year ago this month, there were only 175 million active members.

According to a report by Canadian Press Sunday, the Quebec woman, Nathalie Blanchard said an insurance agent told her that the long-term disability cheques were terminated after photos of her Facebook grabbed the Manulife's attention.

As a reporter covering Facebook, I do get the occasional cranky complaints from members who, for one reason or another, are experiencing errors when they try to access their accounts. But it's never been anything like the past week, with a steady stream of e-mails continuing to come in from Facebook members who say they remain shut out of their accounts--despite assurance from Facebook that profiles have not been deleted and that the company is working on the problem.

Secret Service Investigating Facebook Poll On Obama

(CNN) -- The social networking site Facebook on Monday pulled a third-party application that allows users to create polls after a site member built a poll asking if President Obama should be killed.

The U.S. Secret Service, the agency assigned to protect the president, has launched an investigation, agency spokesman James Mackin said.

"As is usually the case, our vigilant users reported it to us first," Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt told CNN. "The USSS [Secret Service] sent us an e-mail late this morning PDT asking us to take it down. At that point, it had already been removed, and we let them know."
